The CTC Editor offers two ways to access any object: the Main screen, and the Detailed Lists which is shown in a separate window when selecting the menu item “Edit” → “Detailed Lists”. On the Main screen you can click on any object on the diagram and you will get a window showing the details of the selected object. You can get the same details when double-clicking on a line in the detailed list. If you select a view in the Detailed List showing particular types of visible objects, the Detailed List window and the Main screen interact in a way that helps you to identify and locate objects in both windows: a click with the right mouse button in the Main screen toggles the highlight attribute – the object is shown in yellow on the Main screen, while the same object is marked with a red background in the Detailed List. In the Detail List you can change the same highlight attribute by clicking on the line also with the right mouse button. For more detail how to select objects see here.
You can highlight more than one object at a time, and for certain object types a group edit is available to manipulate the selected, highlighted objects the same way. A filter function within the Detailed List allows you to select (and highlight) objects which meet certain criteria.
For certain tasks it is helpful to use visual aspects of the territory shown on the screen. Tools for this are available from the Main screen, which are shown just below the menu of the main screen when selecting the menu item “Edit” → “Tools”:
When selecting one of these tools, the behavior on the main screen changes as to what is going to happen when you click on objects in the diagram portion of the screen.
