The Switch action within the link maintenance tool allows you to replace the linkage to an object with one to a different object. It combines the activity of one disconnect followed by one connect that you would have to do otherwise.
You need to have three link objects of regular link types (LUL, LUR, LDL, LDR): in spot #1 the object from which you want the linkage changed, in spot #2 the object to where it is currenly linked (with the correct link type pointing back to our object, and in spot #3 the object to which you want to link after the switch – the link value of the intended link type needs to be <None> (<NULL> in the detailed object info indicating there is currently no connection). The role of spots #2 and #3 can be reversed.
This action is reversible by just hitting the switch action button again.
One example is replacing the connection from block B81 to block B41 to control element C35 and back as shown here:

Note that the open ended linkage moves between spot #2 and #3 forth and back when you hit the switch button repeatedly.
